Background
In 1988, ICTSI participated in and won the 25+25 year concession to operate the MICT. This was the Philippine Government’s first port privatization effort, and was participated in by seven local and international consortia. ICTSI’s responsibilities include:
  • Port management, operations and administration
  • Port construction and development, including port planning and programming
  • Investment risk and financing
Since its takeover of the MICT in 1988, ICTSI has more than tripled the terminal’s annual capacity and throughput, expanded cargo handling fleet to make it the largest and most modern in the country today, converted a manual control system to an integrated real-time IT terminal control system, and increased quay crane productivity to an average of 33 moves per hour per crane.

The MICT is ICTSI’s flagship operation.
  • Market share: 65% in Port of Manila
  • Start of operations: 12 June 1988
